- Lentokonetehdas aloitti toimintansa 1921 ilmavoimien alaisuudessa nimellä Ilmailuvoimien Lentokonetehdas (IVL tai I.V.L.). Yhtiön nimi vaihtui lopulliseen Valtion lentokonetehdas -muotoonsa 23. helmikuuta 1928, jolloin tehdas siirtyi ilmavoimien alaisuudesta puolustusministeriön alaisuuteen.
