Concept information

Preferred term

Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinases

Type

  • Topical Descriptor

Entry terms

  • Kinase, Mitogen-Activated Protein
  • Mitogen Activated Protein Kinase
  • Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase
  • Protein Kinase, Mitogen-Activated

Scope note

  • A superfamily of PROTEIN SERINE-THREONINE KINASES that are activated by diverse stimuli via protein kinase cascades. They are the final components of the cascades, activated by phosphorylation by MITOGEN-ACTIVATED PROTEIN KINASE KINASES, which in turn are activated by mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinases (MAP KINASE KINASE KINASES).

History note

  • 2000; for EXTRACELLULAR SIGNAL-REGULATED KINASES use CA(2+)-CALMODULIN DEPENDENT PROTEIN KINASE 1994-1999
