- A naturally occurring reproductive phenomenon of FLOWERING PLANTS where self-incompatibility arises due to differences between NUCLEUS, CYTOPLASM, MITOCHONDRIA, or CHLOROPLASTS that occur in gamete cells from separate sources when they are brought together by cross-hybridization or in vitro manipulation.
