- Lähinnä 1980- ja 1990-luvuilla syntynyt populaarimusiikkityyli, jossa on pyritty luomaan yleensä sähköisin soittimin erilaisia, tavallisesti harmonisia ääniympäristöjä. Tyylin 14 alalajien niminä on esiintynyt mm. seuraavia käsitteitä: ambient breakbeat, ambient dub, ambient house, ambient pop, ambient techno, dark ambient ja experimental ambient.
- Termiä suositellaan käytettäväksi lähinnä vain 1980- ja 1990-luvuilla sekä myöhemmin syntyneestä musiikista.
