Note
- In addition to the terms that are to be used, a controlled vocabulary may contain other terms (such as synonyms or terms describing the same subject) that are not to be used as-is but help guide users into using a specifically selected term. In index term lists, these types of terms that guide users to the terms that are to be used are called non-descriptors. Controlled vocabularies can be used to unify the descriptions of materials, for example.
