Concept information
Preferred term
integrity
Definition
- characteristic of data that is used to indicate that the data in question has not been altered without authorisation or unintendedly and that any possible alterations can be verified and traced
Note
- When a piece of data is altered, it can become defective or contradictory when compared to the original data. The meaning of a piece of data can be changed not only when its format is changed but also when the context where it is used is changed. Data integrity is sometimes used to indicate that certain pieces of data do not contradict each other.
